Collection: Delft Blue jewelry

I really love working with porcelain. You can work in great detail and I love the texture. I also thought it would be interesting to combine this with Delft Blue, also because I find its history so fascinating.

Delft Blue is a form of pottery and ceramics that originated in the Dutch city of Delft. It is known for its characteristic blue and white color scheme, inspired by the Chinese porcelain that was very popular in Europe in the 17th century. Delft blue was developed as an affordable alternative to expensive Chinese porcelain.

The origins of Delft Blue date back to the 1600s, when Dutch traders attempted to understand the secrets of Chinese porcelain. Although they failed to replicate the precise process of Chinese porcelain, they developed their own style inspired by Chinese designs. This style quickly became popular and grew into what we now know as Delft blue.

Delft Blue is characterized by its bright blue colors, often combined with white backgrounds, and is often decorated with images of windmills, boats, flowers and landscapes. The porcelain is painted by hand using a special technique in which blue pigment is applied to the pottery before it is glazed and fired. This is done for my jewelry by a professional Delft Blue painter
